La Bohème with the Opera Company of Philadelphia latest KSB and PG appearances

Twenty eight members of Keystone State Boychoir (KSB) and Pennsylvania Girlchoir (PG), member choirs of Commonwealth Youthchoirs, joined the Opera Company of Philadelphia (OCP) in the staging this fall of Puccini’s La Bohème. The choirs are the official youthchoirs of OCP.

This year’s production of the classic work included several innovative features. The set at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music included period art from the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Barnes Foundation, further setting the tone for Puccini’s love story set in bohemian Paris. A recording of the performance was shown on a giant screen to a crowd of over 2000 on Independence Mall in Philadelphia, and the choir members were among the audience, a unique way to see themselves in performance.

Keystone State Boychoir, under music directors Joseph Fitzmartin and Steven M. Fisher, and Pennsylvania Girlchoir, under new music director Vincent Metallo, perform a wide range of repertoire from classical to contemporary in venues from Verizon Hall and the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia to all over the world. KSB this summer sang at a ceremony in Oslo, Norway for Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi.
